I’ve written a lot about how utterly absurd it is for the US government to continue to award multi-million dollar contracts to such criminal enterprises as Halliburton and its various subsidiaries, and to Xe Services, the successor to Blackwater, not only in light of their documented fraud, but primarily for their reckless disregard for human life.
The record these corporations established during the wars in Iraq and Afganistan should be enough to permanently ban them from any continued consideration for new contracts, but, defying all logic, they continue to be handed hundreds of millions of US dollars by the Obama administration.
Well, Senator Bernie Sanders has also seen more than enough of this, and he is introducing the Stop Outsourcing Security Act, a bill that would prohibit the use of private contractors for military, security, law enforcement, intelligence, and armed rescue functions. As Sen. Sanders elaborated,
“At a time of record deficits and skyrocketing debt, enough is enough. It makes no sense to keep throwing cash at wartime mercenaries who have proven again and again that they cannot be trusted with taxpayer dollars.”
Thank you, San. Sanders. You continue to demonstrate that you are the single most progressive and distinguished member of the United States Senate.
