It was back in the fall of 2015 when marco rubio, in the early stages of the race for the gop nomination for president, made some very serious pronouncements about his current job, what he thought of it, and regarding his future. It’s the “White House or Bust” for rubio, as he declared that he had “given up” on the US Senate, that it was too slow and too rule-bound, and that, with emphasis added as an excuse for missing so many votes, that he was leaving the Senate, and that he was NOT running for re-election (“Rubio gives up on Senate: ‘He hates it’”).
Even after he dropped out of the presidential race in March, he reiterated his statements, telling reporters:
“I’m gonna finish out my term in the Senate and over the next ten months we are going to work really hard here – we have some things we want to achieve – and then I’ll be a private citizen in January.
“No. No, I’m not running for reelection to the Senate.” (“Marco Rubio Emotionally Announces He Will Not Seek Senatorial Reelection”)
rubio has also lamented the failure of any of his great ideas, embodied in several failed
As of today, with five-and-one-half years in the US Senate, rubio can count the following bills that did pass as his greatest achievements: A bill naming September as “National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month” and a resolution congratulating the Miami Heat for winning the National Basketball Association Championship.
Of course, as I have written regarding the House and Congress in general, we, the American people, are much better off when those elected to run the place through pervasive gerrymandering by a minority of uneducated, egotistical and largely vindictive and racist teabaggers do NOT act, as virtually what ever they try to pass would result in further pain and suffering, and deprivation of rights, for all but the wealthiest and most powerful in the country.
rubio’s one shining moment was his inclusion in the “Gang of Eight” to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill, but of course the teabagger house has never acted on it and in the course of the presidential campaign, the always forthright and honest (snicker, snicker) rubio backed off from it, basically telling the anti-immigrant, anti-immigration reform right wing base of the gop that the bill was one big mistake and of course he doesn’t believe in that stuff. For the record, he opposed amnesty and a path to citizenship when running for the Senate, then he helped pass a bill that would include amnesty and a path to citizenship while in the Senate, and then as a presidential candidate, opposed amnesty and a path to citizenship (“Did Marco Rubio flip flop on amnesty?”).
As to his commitment to the Senate, rubio began missing time long before the beginning of the 2016 presidential election campaign season. In 2014 for example, rubio missed
Rubio Puts Phony Anti-Castro Past Above His Senate Responsibility and US Needs – Documenting the phony campaign stories of his family’s fleeing Castro’s Cuba, which never happened, and the fact that his grandfather returned to Cuba after the revolution and worked for the Castro government;
More On Rubio’s Inherent Dishonesty – How rubio, as Majority Leader of the Florida House of Representatives, recommended to the Florida Division of Real Estate that they give a convicted drug dealer who had served more than a decade in prison a real estate license, not disclosing that the fellow was rubio’s brother-in-law; and
Rubio Grandstanding Finally Over – He Does His Job, Sort Of – The vindictive rubio denying a more than qualified career diplomat a major presidential appointment that drastically needed filling due to her participation in the President’s negotiations to open relations with Cuba.
So, now he wants to stay in the Senate. An guess what? Another run for president in 2020. Come on , Florida! Show the lying scumbag the way out. Let him sell real estate with his drug-lord brother-in-law.
