When to Believe Trump? NEVER!

In order to understand that donald trump is the most dishonest person on the public scene, now and maybe ever, and that not a word he says, ever, can be considered to contain an iota of truth, one only has to look to independent fact-checkers, such as Politifact, and the words of Michael LaBossiere, Professor of Philosophy at Florida A&M University, who studies “theories of knowledge” and who has said of trump, that he has ”perfected the outrageous untruth as a campaign tool”, and that

“He makes a clearly false or even absurdly false claim, which draws the attention of the media. He then rides that wave until it comes time to call up another one.”

Politifact has kept a close watch on trump, and last December issued a finding that of 77 statements checked, 76% were so outrageously false as to be categorized as “ Mostly False,

Non-toxic products for your home and yard
False or Pants on Fire”. At the time, they awarded him their award for “Lie of the Year”, but could not dedicate it to merely one outrageous lie out of so, so many. They gave instead a few examples, such as his statement that "Whites killed by whites - 16%. Whites killed by blacks - 81%" when the actual numbers are IN FACT Whites killed by whites -82%. Whites killed by blacks - 15%.

In fact, Politifact, in checking the honesty and veracity of each of the presidential candidates, found that the trump told the truth precisely 9% of the time.
In March, Politico.com did their own fact-checking, finding in their calculations five dozen lies in a chronicle of five days of stump speeches. Their conclusions:

“His remarks represent an extraordinary mix of inaccurate claims about domestic and foreign policy and personal and professional boasts that rarely measure up when checked against primary sources.

“Many were straight-up wrong, such as his claim that the United States has a “$500 billion a year trade deficit with China,” which has been debunked over and over by fact checkers, and his statement that he never settles lawsuits, when in fact he has.

“In other instances, Trump stretches the limits of reality to distort the records of his rivals…

“Then there are the seemingly small falsehoods, piled one atop another. … He even claims ownership of a successful winery that denies any ownership tie to the GOP front-runner…”

Special note should be made regarding Politico’s findings about his continual lies that he was self-funding his campaign. As of their March reporting, he had actually received $7.5 Million from donors, and had himself given his campaign not the $30 M he lied that he had given, but rather the total sum of $250,318.00.

Maybe most revealing of all are statement that
came from trump himself, when in an appearance last night with Jimmy Kimmel, in response to questions concerning the praise he had in past years given Hillary Clinton, including statements that “she would make an excellent president”, he stated that he said those things, and others, as a businessman who lied as a general operating procedure, telling people whatever they wanted to hear, the truth be damned.

So, was he lying then, or is he lying now?

Easy, then and especially, NOW, and about EVERY THING.

About theHoundDawg

For many years as a lawyer, I saw much of the good and bad of society, and did what I could to right many wrongs. The lack of understanding of what is good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust, as evidenced by such events as the election of King W as president, (who as such far surpassed the evil of richard nixon but not quite that of ronald reagan) lead me in a new direction, to spend my time trying to understand what is happening to our society, to try as best I can to spread my insights to others, and along the way to maybe even eke out a living through the internet.
