Ben Carson: Uncaring, Ignorant, Misinformed

Yesterday I made a brief reference to Ben Carson, the most ignorant and uninformed presidential candidate ever to register the level of support that he continues to receive, barely a year away from a presidential election:

“Never before has there been a public figure so educated and brilliant in one field yet so utterly and totally ignorant and uninformed regarding everything else in life and in the world, as Ben Carson. The question regarding the book he is promoting is not who wrote it for him, but rather, who read it to him…”

Looking more deeply into Carson’s stated positions on a variety of issues is just plain, eco-kitchen superstore
plain scary, and demonstrates both his closed-minded ignorance and total lack of compassion for his fellow man. Was this disdain for the suffering and needs of others part of his “bedside manner” as a physician? Was his outright hatred for the majority of others with whom he would have contact in his daily activities as a physician a primary reason for his leaving the medical profession?

In looking into a variety of issues, it becomes an unmistakable reality that his positions are based on his
ignorance of the truth in a variety of areas and on his dogmatic personal views of society. Take for example his stated views on the failed “War on Drugs”.

Rather than taking a realistic view of the state of drug usage in today’s society that is saddled with the utterly bankrupt method of dealing with illegal drugs that has created a billion-dollar industry built around absurd, largely race-based prosecutions, unneeded drug testing and a private prison system designed solely for profit, Carson only wants to spend more and intensity the failures of the past. Just yesterday, an Atlantic Monthly interview with Carson described his nonsensical belief that nothing is being done by the federal government to prevent drug trafficking:

“Yeah, well, go down to the border in Arizona like I was a few weeks ago. I mean, it’s an open highway. And the federal government isn’t doing anything to stop it.”

Is he just ignoring the fact that from the start of the failed war on drugs, over $1 Trillion has been thrown down the government toilet and that the federal government alone continues to allocate and spend in excess of $25 billion per year on this outrageous “war”, or is he ignorant of such FACTS, or is he just too stupid to understand such things?

His position is clearly to “intensity” the war on drugs and to spend more and more and to jail more and more citizens. Decriminalization of marijuana? Never, says Carson:

“You know, we’re gradually just removing all the barriers to hedonistic activity…”

The most important and vital issue facing the entire world is climate change, and people who do not deny or ignore the issue based on their political beliefs rather than scientific reality can and do see on a daily basis the reality of how climate change is already affecting personal safety, agriculture, economics, health and more across the world. But, Carson has a different view. To him the issue is “irrelevant”.

Carson has no understanding whatsoever of Common Core, calling it a federal government program and totally failing to understand that it is the product of a private organization established by the republican-led National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers and that it was loved by the gop until it was endorsed by President Obama, which magically then changed it into a government takeover of education to be vilified and rejected. He also fully supports national efforts to destroy free public education and to continue the process of turning primary education into solely a for-profit industry will no regard for actual and successful education.

Carson’s lack of understanding of sexual preference is as well-known as it is absurd, having stated his opinion on numerous occasions that homosexuality is a choice. His most infamous and oft-repeated statement on the subject was his belief that straight people choose to change sexual preference when imprisoned and are then gay when released.

His absurd views on taxation mirror his hatred for the poor, for the elderly, for the disabled, and for any group that cannot go out into the workplace and become super-rich. His positions on taxation include the elimination of all tax policies that reduce the tax burden on low income Americans. He also advocates a flat tax where the poor would pay the same tax rate as the super rich. Finally, he advocates the abolition of the IRS, inherently believing that all those super-rich people and corporations will willingly pay over exactly what they owe with no need for oversight or sanctions for any failures to do so.

Perhaps the most outrageous positions he has taken revolve around religion. He raised eyebrows across the county last month when he clearly stated for all to hear that no one of the Muslim faith should ever be President of the United States. His later attempts to back off from the clear meaning of his original statement further portrays his total lack of character. This was further verified when he told fox fixed news noise’s sean hannity that he would support a Muslim for president if that person first rejected the tenets of Islam and swore to subjugate their religious beliefs to the US Constitution.

Very interesting coming from a man who has repeatedly said that Christian beliefs should guide elected officials in their governing and that legislation should follow such religious beliefs. As someone who has been vehemently opposed to gay rights, he has said that pro-LGBT judges should be removed from office and he has in the past advocated a tax policy including tithing, and his
campaign recently posted on his facebook page a video of his latest birthday celebration wherein he told those attending that his birthday wish was that our nation “would once again recognize that God is our leader.”

As I wrote yesterday,

“The man is an absolute disgrace to the medical profession and his level of success says so much about an uninformed partisan political party whose members can support such a person who is totally incapable of handling the duties of any elected office, let alone the presidency.”

And finally, perhaps his most infamous quote:

“You know Obamacare is really I think the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. And it is in a way, it is slavery in a way, because it is making all of us subservient to the government, and it was never about health care. It was about control.”

About theHoundDawg

For many years as a lawyer, I saw much of the good and bad of society, and did what I could to right many wrongs. The lack of understanding of what is good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust, as evidenced by such events as the election of King W as president, (who as such far surpassed the evil of richard nixon but not quite that of ronald reagan) lead me in a new direction, to spend my time trying to understand what is happening to our society, to try as best I can to spread my insights to others, and along the way to maybe even eke out a living through the internet.

The Republican clown cars the past 3 election cycles have been downright frightening!
Who in there right mind fails to see the rediculessness of the off the wall candidates they seem to cherish.. Palen, Cain, Bachmann, Perry, Trump, Carson all certifiable losers, yet millions of Republicans can’t distinguish them from normal prospects.. It’s a scary thought to think of what could happen if one of their special “picks” ever made it into a position of consequence… Aie yie yie …

Once upon a time there was a Jacob Javits, a Thomas Keuchel, a Dwight Eisenhower, even Bob Dole, but today, ferret out the carsons and trumps and you get cruz and rubio, and go past them and it’s bush and then santorum, huckabee and jindal – not a sane, intelligent, capable, compassionate, fair-minded person among them, anywhere.
