HarperCollins’ Blatant Anti-Semitism

Well, it seems that the new year has begun with the revelation that one of the United States’ largest corporate giants has engaged in blatant, extreme anti-Semitism, which apparently had gone unnoticed for several months in the US, as the company profited through sales to specific foreign target audiences of a publication that clearly and outrageously demonstrates their bigotry.

It was revealed by the Catholic publication The Tablet, in an article that appeared on New Years Eve, that HarperCollins, one of the “Big Five” of the world’s largest English-language publishing houses, in an atlas they published and aimed at a middle east market, has seen fit to omit the existence of Israel. Maps of the area where Israel “exists” instead show Jordan and Syria extending to the Mediterranean Sea, according to information in the Tablet article.

Information about the atlas only became public in Europe and the US when the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales issued a statement saying that the atlas was harmful to middle east peace efforts. Despite later self-serving statements taking a far different tone, initial responses from the company clearly indicated their biases and the fact that they acted intentionally and with extreme

malice in publishing the book. Collins Bartholomew, a British subsidiary of HarperCollins, when first asked about the “omission” responded that including Israel would have been “unacceptable” to their customers in the Gulf, and that the omission was in line with what they termed “local preferences”. In the too little, too late department, after the pr guys got involved, HarperCollins put this statement on their facebook page:

“HarperCollins regrets the omission of the name Israel from their Collins Middle East Atlas. This product has now been removed from sale in all territories and all remaining stock will be pulped. HarperCollins sincerely apologises [sic] for this omission and for any offence [sic] caused.”

The Tablet article reported that earlier HarperCollins’ atlases had only been allowed to be distributed in various middle east countries when Israel had been obliterated by hand from the pages of the book.

Rupert Murdoch: A Reassessment
Oh, and by the way, did you know that HarperCollins is now a subsidiary, along with fox (fixed) news (noise), of Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp.? Of course you know that the second largest stockholder in NewsCorp after Murdoch is his partner in crime, billionaire Saudi Arabian Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. Do you think that just maybe, the second most powerful voice in NewsCorp and HarperCollins just might have a say so in what the company publishes? Just more food for thought concerning this disgusting and premeditated act,
done with the purpose of placating a segment of the corporation’s customer base, at the expense of fairness, decency and humanity.

Boycott HarperCollins!

About theHoundDawg

For many years as a lawyer, I saw much of the good and bad of society, and did what I could to right many wrongs. The lack of understanding of what is good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust, as evidenced by such events as the election of King W as president, (who as such far surpassed the evil of richard nixon but not quite that of ronald reagan) lead me in a new direction, to spend my time trying to understand what is happening to our society, to try as best I can to spread my insights to others, and along the way to maybe even eke out a living through the internet.
