I Wonder Why There is No Respect for Government Authority?

Alhambra, CA Memorial Defaced by VandalsThis photo shows the results of vandals having defaced a public memorial at the Alhambra, CA civic center. Law enforcement, local officials, and members of the public wonder why this happens, why there is such a lack of respect for authority in general and for government representatives and property specifically.

The answer is really crystal clear, and you have to look no further than this week’s election, and my post from a few days ago, “Where Is The OUTRAGE When Right Wing IDIOTS Advocate TREASON?”

Why should anyone expect more from the common citizen, especially young people, when we have establishment officials like Joni Ernst – elected Tuesday by the voters of the state of Iowa to the United States Senate – running around gleefully explaining to large gatherings that she would not hesitate to use her personal firearms against government officials who she feels have disrespected her rights.

Spray painting a memorial wall seems awfully tame when compared to the the likely results of an act such as that so forcefully advocated by Senator-Elect Ernst.

What of the pervasive lack of respect for the President of the United States? We all know what that is based on, and it has risen exponentially in the couple of days since the election. The leader of the country’s republican base, rush limbaugh, lost no time following the election to state unequivocally that republicans were not elected to govern, but rather to oppose Pres. Obama. Earlier today, on a call-in broadcast on CNN, a caller was cut off

after using the "N" word in reference to the President. A white man with the record of the moderate, pro economic growth Barack Obama, who has overseen the most successful health care reform in US history that has significantly increased the customer base and profits of an entire billion-dollar industry, and the unprecedented revitalization of a moribund economy bringing

about the highest stock valuations in history, would be canonized next to their idol r reagan as the other greatest president ever. But not in this era, not by the racist base of American republicans.

Think back to earlier this year to the Nevada standoff between federal agents versus Cliven Bundy and his thousands of supporters, lined up with firearms aimed towards those representative of the United States government. Look at who supported them – gop politicians, pundits, and tea bagger idiots, all of whom were vividly and outrageously advocating treason against their country.

But mark up a wall? Those perps are the ones who need to be brought to justice.

About theHoundDawg

For many years as a lawyer, I saw much of the good and bad of society, and did what I could to right many wrongs. The lack of understanding of what is good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust, as evidenced by such events as the election of King W as president, (who as such far surpassed the evil of richard nixon but not quite that of ronald reagan) lead me in a new direction, to spend my time trying to understand what is happening to our society, to try as best I can to spread my insights to others, and along the way to maybe even eke out a living through the internet.
