Lieberman, Nelson, and McCain – Disgraces of the Senate

After months of exposure to the American people through the course of the health care debate, it is clear that the US Senate is composed of 85 or so of the most dishonest, money-grubbing scum ever elected to high office in this country. There are, perhaps, 15 decent, honest statesmen among the members of the Senate, but that is far from a significant number, leaving the important decisions to a biased, ignorant, majority.

Much can be written about any of the vile 85, but three stand out among them.

Former Democrat Joseph Lieberman, the Senator from Aetna, has only one constituency – the insurance industry. He has done everything humanly possible to derail real health care reform (and any other important Democrat-sponsored legislation vital to the US’s recovery from the evils of the bush years) and is more responsible than any other single person not formally employed by a health insurance lobbyist group for the death of the public option. Now, he has also derailed prospects for the passage of what could have been both a reasonable alternative to a public option, and an inroad to the real reform of a single payer system – the expansion of Medicare to those younger than 65.

Let us not forget, however, that the Senator, despite his short-lived denials, is on record as being FOR such a Medicare expansion, only a few short months ago:

And to think, the American people voted him Vice President, as a Democrat, in the 2000 election.

Nebraska’s Ben Nelson is actually a more vile person that Lieberman. A Democrat in name only, Nelson has been an insurance company CEO and Nebraska state Insurance Commissioner. He is a virulent stain on the fabric of modern, enlightened society, obsessed with the great American pastimes of hunting and dedicating his life to denying American citizens the right of Choice. Much of the contents of his campaign coffers not provided by the insurance industry (out-of-state health insurance interests have made contributions to his Senatorial campaigns of more than $1.5 Million) has come from groups seeking to overturn Roe v Wade. He was also the only Democrat to vote against stem cell research. This report provides even more details about the good Senator.

Now, his mantra is that HE, a DEMOCRAT (yea, right) will filibuster the health care bill unless it contains the language he deems appropriate to guarantee that the right of abortion be denied to US citizens seeking payment through health insurance coverage.

And of course, no such list can be complete without the name John McCain. Today, Sen. McSenile, in a diatribe against Democratic Senators refusing to grant republicans additional time to finish their prepared messages of obstreperousness on various issues, stated that in all of his years in the Senate, that he had NEVER seen that done before. Well, McSenile is either getting even more senile, or has proven again that he is dishonest and a liar, in that the Congressional record clearly shows that he himself DENIED additional time to Democrat Mark Dayton in 2002, when Dayton asked for an additional 30 SECONDS to finish his comments against bush’s pending Iraq invasion.

Unfortunately, this is a mere sampling of the actions of some of the most important and influential people in the world – the people who pass the laws that affect the daily lives of all Americans.

For shame.

About theHoundDawg

For many years as a lawyer, I saw much of the good and bad of society, and did what I could to right many wrongs. The lack of understanding of what is good and bad, right and wrong, just and unjust, as evidenced by such events as the election of King W as president, (who as such far surpassed the evil of richard nixon but not quite that of ronald reagan) lead me in a new direction, to spend my time trying to understand what is happening to our society, to try as best I can to spread my insights to others, and along the way to maybe even eke out a living through the internet.
